FUN TIMES IN CALI

  • So recently I have decided to start going out more so I can network and make bigger moves, and so I joined some new groups on MeetUp.Com to find out what events were going on in my area.  Well... this week there was a YouTube event and I decided to go and I had so much fun!  I even was able to get info for a second music event as well for the same week.  Recently it has been very difficult for me to focus on my goals because so many things are going on in my mind.  I miss my Mom, and my family, and most of all I miss having friends to go out with.  Even though I'm originally from LA all my best friends are on the East Coast.  I have been trying to meet some cool people out in Cali but it just hasn't been the same.  I always feel however there is a solution to every problem so I took some time to look within and ask myself what could I do to make things better, and the answer I came up with is, JUST TRY HARDER! LOL

When you move around a lot growing up its hard to form long lasting relationships because you never have any stability.  I always moved back and forth from New York to California throughout my adolescent years so my friends are all spread out and that's really frustrating, but such is life.  If you want something to change you have to put forth the effort and make it happen so here I am making it Happen!  I have several other networking events to attend this week, and I feel good about my progress.  As long as you keep moving forward you can Never Fail!

    Until Next Time....

    FINDING A NEW LOVE

By: Maya D On: 3:36:00 AM

  • Out with the old and in "With the New" Its time to get over that past relationship, and put yourself back on the market. The problem is it’s been so long that you don’t know where to start. Well have no fear; here are some steps to get you moving in the right direction.

The first step of finding a new love is to not look for one, yes I said it "don’t look"! After you get out of an old relationship use the time you have for self reflection. Go out and enjoy life! Start a new hobby, take some walks in the park, maybe adopt a new pet, but don’t go looking for love, instead let it find you. When you start on your journey towards self reflection you find new and exciting things to do that make you happy. When you are happy and in a state of bliss you will attract other people of like mind towards you. This is one of the first steps in meeting the right ONE.

After connecting with a new potential love make sure you take the time to build up your friendship, don’t rush into anything too soon. Love is always worth the wait so you have plenty of time to take the relationship to the next level. In the meantime just enjoy each others company, and start to learn about the person’s likes, and dislikes. You can share your dreams, ambitions, and fantasies together. This builds up a healthy rapport so that you can learn one another on a deeper level. Save intimacy until you feel it’s the appropriate time for the both of you, remember rushing into something too soon can ruin the connection so take it slow.

Remember when building a new relationship take heed to not bring up your past partner or past relationship issues. This can hinder or tarnish your future relationship, that’s why self reflection is so important. Make sure that you have cleansed yourself from your past baggage so that when you go into a new connection you are fresh to experience all that love has to offer! Your past is your past, learn from it and move forward!

    SLACKIN ON MY PIMPIN!

  • OK OK!! I know it has been forever since I wrote anything in my blog and I know that's a Major Fail!  I promise however that I'm going to do better at keeping up with my blog post in the future.  Alot of things have been going on since I last updated my website. I left my full time job so I could go back to school and focus on my acting.  I am currently in the process of finishing up the testing for my nursing class so I can have the freedom that I need to pursue my other interest.

The only problem now is my car situation.  My car broke down just when I finished school. I guess I should be happy that it ran long enough for me to finish up my clinicals! LOL  I'm not complaining! God is good! and he allowed me to get to where I needed to go, and now that I'm moving on to the next phase in my life I know that everything will work out in my favor.  All I have to do is continue to grind hard and have faith.  Its only a matter of time before I get a new car, and get things just where they need to be.

Hugs and Kisses! I will update again soon!!!

    ITS GETTING STICKY! PART 1

By: Maya D On: 10:03:00 AM

  • Its been a while since I blogged!! but today I really gotta get some things off my chest!

Around February 2010 I was in my first official movie! It was called "The Gift", featuring Charles S Dutton, and Jamie Hector. I was called in to do background work for a Birthday Party Scene. Everything was so unexpected because I wasn’t even looking for any extra work at the time. I was working with an agent in order to book some modeling jobs, and she asked if I wanted to work on a movie project. I said yes because I have a deep passion for movies, and there was no place id rather be on a Friday night than on a movie set! I mean why sit home watching a movie when you can actually be a part of one! LOL

When I got on set I instantly adapted to the environment, and it became a part of me! I was not shy or nervous. I just smiled and became friendly with everyone I could. The casting director and other people on the set really liked my down to earth personality, and told the agent I was working with that I was a pleasure to have on set. I wanted to stay all night, and I was sad when they told us that it was time to go home.

After that day the acting bug bit me in the ASS BIG TIME, and I have been looking for more opportunities ever since. I have always had a fear about auditioning in front of people. I didn’t think I could have the courage to go to an audition and get rejected by a table full of agents, but little did I know... I had more courage then I knew.

In March i decided to sign up with a casting company in NY, and I worked hard searching vigorously on google for more auditions. I put aside my fear and said screw the punk ass routine lets do this shit! So I went on my first audition about 2 weeks ago. The first audition I had was for a play. Little did I know however it was for a musical, and my ass is not trynna break no mirrors by singing! lol so I just did an improv skit with some other actors, and I did a great job! The only thing I was off on was my Monologue! Damn Monologue Why do you have to do those things anyway? LMAO Well despite my FAIL on the monologue side I did awesome with the improv skit so I was satisfied because I gave it my best!

The following day I had a second audition for an independent film in Philadelphia. I kid you not all the fear I had the previous day was completely gone, and I had turned into a completely different person! A confident person. When I got to my audition I blew everyone including myself away! The panel was all smiles, and nodding their heads at my performance, and this past week I got a call from the director telling me personally that he wanted me for the movie!

I have also been fortuned enough to work on the TV show Mercy Hospital in NY as a Nurse during my short time as an Actress. This Monday I finished my first film where I had several lines. It was for a student film at Temple University.

I must admit that I am working harder at this than I have at anything else I have ever done! When I have to miss an audition for my full time day job I swear tears start welling up in my eyes, and I start to cry! That’s how I know this is what I was meant to do! I AM AN ACTRESS! There’s nothing anyone can tell me to change that! I have proven to myself that I have the natural gift to act, and I know that god has blessed me with these skills. I have no doubt in my mind. Everyone in life has god given talents, and gifts, and if you use these gifts you will be happy from within because you are truly doing something you love! Its not a job, but a career. A career that you can be proud of!

A couple days ago I was on the set for another movie project, and they called me back again for background work. I had so much fun working with the crew last time I was there, and I met some other great actors, and actresses. There was no way I was turning this opportunity down for anything! however... here comes the sticky part... MY 9-5 JOB!

One thing I have learned in this profession over the last several months is YOU CANT HAVE A FULL TIME JOB AND TRULLY BE CONSIDERED AN ACTOR! To perfect your craft and become one with it you have to sacrifice, and put it first above everything else! You have to be willing to grind on the computer for over 6-7 hours a day looking for auditions or extra work. You have to put aside money for quality photos, and you have to be willing to do work for Free so you can add experience to your resume!

Well right now I am at the cross roads. I want to give up everything for the one thing that makes me smile! The one thing that makes me truly happy, but how can I do it when I have a mortgage, and bills out the ass? AND When I have a job where people take off all the time, and expect me to always be there to cover them! Leaving me with no time to leave, and do things I want to do! Well...The answer is this. I have to make a choice. This situation reminds me of a scene from one of my favorite movies by one of my favorite actors WILL SMITH

"You got a dream, you gotta protect it. When people can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you that you can't do it....If you want something GO GET IT!! PERIOD!"

Life is too short to be Unhappy!

    Stay Tuned for PART 2!

    KFC FREE MEAL COUPON

  • Recently there has been a big buzz over the free KFC coupon that Oprah is offering. I think this is a great idea especially during this recession we all could use something for free! However as I took the coupon that my coworker handed me I instantly had a flash back of when I was living out of a car with my mother in NY just a few short years ago! Currently I have food to eat and a house to live in, but back then I had none of the above. My mother and I had to sell the car we were living in for food. It was a very trying time in my life and I will never forget how it felt to sleep on a chair in a dirty shelter room filled with strangers!

I encourage everyone who has a coupon for free chicken to give it to a homeless person. They have no home, no heat, and no luxuries that you have. No matter what their situation is you are not on earth to judge them. I am including the link for the free chicken meal. This offer is available from 5/5/09-5/19/09. Just think of how many smiles you can put on someone’s face if you print out 1 coupon a day for the next week and give it to someone in need! You will be rewarded 10x folds I promise you! Please let’s give this food to someone who is less fortunate then ourselves. I know Oprah is always working to help others. Let’s make her proud!!!

    THE PRECIOUS GIFT OF LIFE

By: Maya D On: 10:14:00 AM

  • This past month a very tragic incident occurred. Jennifer Hudson's mother (Darnell Donerson), brother (Jason), and 7 year old nephew (Julian King) were all killed. I don’t want to go into detail about this occurrence. I would rather take this time to talk about the precious gift of life. This past June I lost my father to Cancer, so I personally understand how devastating it is to lose a parent. Sometimes we don’t understand or agree with the way things happen in life, but we have to keep moving on. As I look at these beautiful pictures of Jennifer and her mother I think of my mother. I am not always the best daughter. I must admit sometimes I can be a spoiled brat.

On Friday October 24th, my mother called me and asked if I would like to go see the movie "The Secret Life of Bees", with Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah, and Alicia Keyes. I brushed her off and said I’m busy! I have a lot of things I have to do this weekend so I don’t have time to go with you. As I’m sitting here at my desk I'm crying because unlike Jennifer I have the opportunity to talk to my mother on the phone everyday. I can run to her right now, and hold her in my arms. I know Jenn would give anything to have her mother and brother back in her life again. Life is so precious, and often times we take it for granted! No one is promised tomorrow, and it’s so important to tell the people in your life that you love them every single day! Never get off the phone or leave their side with out saying, "I- Love - You" because you never know what the future holds.

On November 10, 2007 Kayne West lost his mother to cosmetic complications. Something that should have been a simple procedure turned out to be deadly. I can’t imagine how Kayne must have felt when he got the news. You can tell they were very close. Whenever Kayne would take a picture, his mom was never far behind. I know Donda and Darnell are looking down on their children smiling with pride. Its so funny how no matter what you do your parents have unconditional love for you, or at least they should. I know for a fact my mother has sacrificed everything for me, and she loves me no matter what I say or do. With all my heart I want to make her proud of me.

I find myself even now going through my cell phone and pushing the send button to call my father, and just when I’m about to go through with the call I remember he’s not going to answer. I still haven’t deleted his number from my phone, and I don’t plan to either. It’s like as long as his name is there he’s not really gone. If I lost my mother I honestly don’t know if I would be able to breathe, because she is my life.

I send my prayers and blessings out to Jennifer and her family, and I also send out strength and love to Kayne and his family as well. I send out my condolences right now to everyone in this world who has ever lost someone they loved. Always remember they may not be walking on this earth with you any longer, but they are still with you in spirit. Your loved ones are in your heart, in your breath, in your soul, and in your thoughts. As long as you love them, they will never be forgotten and they will live on through you forever!

I LOVE YOU GUS! Thank you for making peace with me before you died. I’m so glad I got to tell you about some of my upcoming projects before you passed away. Just keep on watching over me. I swear I’m gonna make you proud one day!

    WHEN TO CALL IT QUITS

  • Has your relationship gone from this.....

    To this..............

If the answer is yes, well then maybe you need to reevaluate your relationship.

I spoke with a young woman this week, and she was telling me about her recent breakup. She said she was sad because her ex broke up with her so he could have more time to focus on his career. He said they still could be friends, but right now he couldn’t give her wanted she needed. For the record I don’t believe that bull-ish for a second! I feel any guy/girl who says they need space to focus on their career is holding something back. Normally you want the support of the person you love, and you welcome the encouragement that they can bring into your life. Now if that person is a hindrance because they are constantly bringing you stress then of course you will want to break up with them! But don’t say it’s because of your career plans, when honestly it's because you feel emotionally overwhelmed by their unsupportive attitude towards your goals for the future.

After I thought about her situation I responded by saying, "It sounds like there is more to the story, do you think he’s being completely honest with you?" She said yes she felt he was disclosing the whole story and she went on to explain how her ex has a busy schedule between work and school, and he spends all his free time pursuing his upcoming plans. Now what I forgot to ask the female is if she was a nagger, and if she ever found herself complaining about not having enough quality time with her partner. When a man/woman is working on obtaining their goals they need space. If you have a busy career, or a heavy workload make sure you're in a relationship with someone who understands that. If your partner is emotionally draining or too needy you will separate yourself from them in order to focus. COMMUNICATION is number 1! Not everyone can be in a relationship with someone who has a hectic schedule. However, I’m not excusing the lack of attention that you may be experiencing. When someone is important to you, you will make time for them!

On the flip side I have a male friend who is currently having problems with his woman because she feels he puts his career before their relationship. My friend claims he wants to make it work with her, but he doesn’t know what to do. I asked him if there was anyway he could involve his lady in his upcoming projects, and he said no. This is another issue, COMPROMISE! If this is someone you plan to be with for the long haul why not involve them in your plans? This way they won’t feel so neglected. Now if they don’t want to help, and they only want to complain then to hell with them! But if they genuinely just want to be in your presence, then helping you out with your goals for the future should be an honor.

In the end it’s all about finding the right one for you. Not everyone is going to fit into your lifestyle or your future. A good partner should be supportive, understanding, and compassionate. If you want to take over the world they should be right by your side cheering you on! But at the same time you have to make time for the things they love also. Support and compassion works both ways. Involve the one you love in the things that bring you joy, because it will make them feel special too. If you honestly feel your current partner doesn’t fit into your future plans then tell them so, don’t give them some stupid lame line about being too busy for a relationship. I don’t care what anybody says, you’re never too busy for LOVE! People only say things like that to avoid confrontation or an argument. The real truth is they don’t want to make time for you, and they are busy dealing with things in life that are of more importance to them.

I.E. You are no longer the person that takes priority in their life, they’ve lost interest in making things work with you! Again, if you really love someone and you genuinely want to be with them you will find ways to make it work despite the hardships you may endure.

If you don't want the truth, don't ask MizzHotBlaze!!!

ASHANTI & NELLY (MY FAVORITE COUPLE)

  • There are several couples I would like to acknowledge, because their relationship makes me smile every time I see them together. Love is so precious and beautiful, and I just wanted to take the time to show off some pictures that motivate me to continue my search for true love..........

The First Couple on my list are Nelly & Ashanti. I think they are so cute together. Even though I honestly want Nelly all to myself LOL I can’t deny the bond that these two share together. It seems they have both a friendship, and a close intimate relationship as well. Whenever I see Nelly and Ashanti together they always look so happy! What a wonderful feeling to be in love, and to have a special connection with the one you cherish most! Absolutely FABULOUS!

Picture taken from People.com- In this photo the adorable couple is enjoying a romantic vacation on the Caribbean island of Anguilla. Can you imagine having photographers following you around everywhere you go? Of course I love looking at the pictures, LOL but I also feel everyone, celebrity or not have the right to some kind of privacy.

I think this photo is sooo cute! My only question is...What the heck are they eating? It appears to be some kind of Asian food. LOL Ashanti added in an interview with People Magazine: "Me and Nelly, we're good friends. We kick it - hang out a lot. The industry is very hard, so it's good to have fun and lighten it up." June 2008
Look at the way Nelly is looking down at Ashanti’s dress.
He’s thinking, "Daaamn Mommy! You’re looking sexy tonight! I can’t wait to go home and tear that up!" (If you look closely, you can see a bulge in Nelly's pants! LOL)

Check out Nelly's grin in this picture. He looks so proud! "Oh Yeah. That’s all mine right there!" hehe. Look at the way he’s reaching out his hand to assist his Queen. How can you not love these two! (Nelly & Ashanti pose in the press room at the 2008 BET Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium on June 24, 2008 in Los Angeles, California.)

This beautiful picture was taken on February 2008 during Clive Davis's Pre Grammy Party at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles; CA. How is it that Nelly and Ashanti always look flawless? I know no one is perfect, but when they are together they give off this aura of sophistication and class. They’re always dressed in the most up to date fashion, and I honestly don’t think it’s just because they have money. This couple has good taste as well, and they know how to throw things together. Yes celebrities do have professional designers that dress them, but Nelly and Ashanti seem to have a unique look that is all their own. Don’t Hate!

Maybe I need to get a life, but I’m sorry I just love these two together! Don’t you just feel the all the love in the room right now??
Nelly-"Come Here Babe! Let me give you a big Kiss! MUUUAWWW!!!!"
Ashanti- "Hehe Nelly you’re so crazy!"
I’m over here dying laughing, but seriously I bet that’s how it goes! LOL

WISHING YOU TWO THE BEST! XOXO MizzBlaze

    BEING SINGLE SUCKS!

By: Maya D On: 8:42:00 PM

  • I’m home alone in my room and I’m thinking back to all the relationships I had in the past, and wondering why none of them could last. Well I know I’m not the only one sitting here deep in thought about this subject. I have come to one conclusion regarding this matter…Being Single Sucks!!!!! Seriously, who wants to be alone? There are some people who say they prefer being single, but I think that’s a bunch of bull! The only exception to that is if you were in a Ike vs. Tina relationship.

An abusive spouse could cause anyone to second guess the true meaning of love. Still Tina didn’t give up on finding that special someone, so what’s your excuse? Hmmm… ”Well I’m too busy with work to think of a relationship right now.” Yeah ok, that’s another line people say to make themselves feel better. The truth of the matter is fear causes a lot of people to shy away from commitment. You are afraid of getting hurt, and being vulnerable. It happens to the best of us. We put our trust in someone, and they turn around and let us down.

Well I only have one thing to say about that…Tough Sh**! LOL Sometimes pain is pleasure, and real love is worth fighting for. Don’t give up too soon, because you might miss out on what you’ve been searching for all along.
